Ending the PhD journey

May 29, 2025

four years and a half passed... a bumpy road, with so many insecurities. I remember september 2020, I joined my first PhD class feeling extremely nervous, excited about this project but daunted by the idea that it would be bigger than me. My daughter and my PhD became my priorities.  I was determined to dedicate most of my time to them. I recall the anxiety, the emptiness in my stomach, the nausea when I was writing my comprehensive exams. I was constantly thinkng about my research ideas, making sense of theory, ideas and concepts while confronting previous ones. Trying to feel a sense and purpose in my work. Very hard days that I wouldn't have gone through without the people, the friends that sustained me. My daughter who has been my landline- without her, I would have easily lost my physical and mental health. Caring for her was also a means to care for me. Taking her and picking her up at school, taking her to piano lessons, going to the park, playing, being silly and creative. In the middle of the way, I found a romantic partner, a person that put my world upsidedown, revolcandome la vida como un remolino. That excitement, bliss, joy, calmnes helped me to find balance, and to embrace the fact that I also needed love and care, and an extramotivator to disconnect from academic articles and extensive thinking. At the end of this journey, I am grateful for all the learning, for all the love, trust and support the universe has put in my way.
